Positioned above the coastline at Avoca Beach, this architecturally significant residence showcases the seamless integration of natural materials, contemporary design and exceptional craftsmanship. Delivered in collaboration with Chase Projects and designed by Architecture Saville Isaacs, the project features extensive burnished concrete flooring that complements the home's striking coastal setting and carefully curated architectural palette.
The burnished concrete floors were completed during the early stages of the concrete curing process, allowing the surface to be refined while preserving the natural character of the slab. Through a series of grinding, densifying and polishing stages, the concrete was transformed into a durable, low-maintenance finish with subtle movement, tonal variation and a soft reflective sheen.
What makes this project particularly unique is the relationship between the flooring and the architecture itself. Expansive floor-to-ceiling glazing frames uninterrupted ocean views, while the polished surface captures and reflects the changing light throughout the day. The result is a floor that becomes an integral part of the design, enhancing the sense of space and drawing attention to the surrounding landscape rather than competing with it.
The burnished finish works in harmony with the home's textured masonry walls, exposed concrete elements and natural timber joinery, creating a material palette that feels both contemporary and timeless. The subtle variation within the concrete adds depth and warmth, ensuring the floor remains visually interesting while maintaining the understated elegance expected in a high-end coastal residence.
